"The next monarch, King Kalakaua, became the first Hawaiian monarch to attend a baseball game. Cartwright was the king’s financial advisor. The game took place in 1875 between the Athletes and the Pensacolas. Baseball had been growing in popularity since being played at Punahou School in the 1860s. But it is unclear whether Cartwright actually instituted the playing of the game on the islands."

"While Spalding was in Honolulu for his brief, one day stay, he seemed impressed by remarking that Honolulu had four established clubs and that baseball was fully appreciated there. " (from 1888-89 world tour)

1909-4-01 Had been about to leave for Pueblo when he was stolen away.
1909-4-01  (SF Bulletin) beat Santa Cruz 6-5.
"Dick Reuter, who was introduced to Oakland fans yesterday, is a husky fellow with a side-arm delivery, and as he has plenty of speed and sharp breaks to his ball he should be very effective when he has control of his shoots. Whenever he had his spirals dropping in the vicinity of the plate the opposing batsmen couldn't do much with them,  but his walks proved disastrous."
1909-4-03 (SF Bulletin) "If the Hawaiian has much more speed than he displayed on Wednesday he surely must burn 'em over."
1909-4-06 "Dick Reuter, the Kanaka pitcher, won his first game in the California League but lost his second. He is very wild. 'He is the homeliest ballplayer I ever saw, I do believe,' declares Cyrus Moreing Sr., father of manager Moreing."
1909-4-12 Knocked for nine runs and eleven hits by Stockton.
1909-4-21 Cy Moreing, Oakland CALL MG:
"From the way Dick Reuter was praised by those who saw him work in Honolulu, I had an idea that he was a wonder. I carried him on my staff for two weeks, hoping that someone would take him off my hands, and was finally forced to release him. He's fortunate that he didn't get as far east as the Western League."

1914-8-04 Lang Akana and Bill Inman have been offered contracts for Portland.
Inman, Bill BR - pitched one game for Seals in 1914 - which write-up does not mention.
Inman managed 1940 Hawaiian National team in Amateur World Series:
team had former pros in Johnny Kerr, Pat Gleason, and Herbert North. North won the first pro game in Japanese history (!!!!) North had pitched for Paramount Cubs in 1935.
1916-3-27 Oahu Leaguers (25th Infantry excepted) did not have their hearts in series v. Olympics. Cared about lucre, not winning. Some even demanded money for their play. Of gate receipts from series v. Olympics, 20% will go to the teams. The All-Chinese will receive an extra 10% of the 20% that will be divvied up between them, the Saints, the Honolulus, and the 25th Infantry. There is no good reason for this.
Oahu League president resigns, charging players of lackluster "5 o'clock" spirit. Also, J.A.C. representative had been unfairly turned down in application for team when magnate told him to "go and get a reputation."
